Explore Madinah

Al Madinah Al Munawwarah is one of the two holiest cities for Muslims located in the Kingdom. Every year, millions of pilgrims travel to the holy city of Madinah during Hajj or Umrah since this is where Al Masjid an Nabawi is located, the mosque that was constructed by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Al Madinah is also where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) spent most of his life and where he is buried.  Al Madinah province itself is divided into seven governorates, the most important of which is Al Madinah, its capital city. So, if you want to experience the rich traditions of Muslims, this is the best place to visit in Saudi Arabia.

The best things to see and do in Madinah Al Munawwarah

When you’re in Madinah Al Munawwarah, make sure to include these sites and activities in your itinerary:

  1. See the Prophet’s Mosque. The highlight of any visit to Madinah Al Munawwarah is the Al Masjid an Nabawi, the final resting place of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Consisting of 10 minarets with a capacity of 1 million visitors, this stunning mosque is a significant part of Muslim history since the Prophet helped in its construction. He also spent a lot of time teaching in this mosque, which is why it’s a dream destination for Muslims.
  2. Visit Mount Uhud. Another important pilgrimage site for Muslims is Mount Uhud, the site where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) led the Muslim forces in the second most important battle in early Islamic history (3rd Shawwal 3 AH) to fight the Quraish troops from Makkah. The Muslims had an initial edge under the leadership of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However, they lost for celebrating the victory too early by leaving their positions. You’ll also visit the Uhud Martyr’s Cemetery where 85 of the Muslim martyrs were buried.
  3. Experience the Quba Mosque. Before the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) built the Prophet’s Mosque, he laid the foundation for the first mosque in the world, which is now called the Quba Mosque, another significant site for Muslim pilgrims. After visiting the mosque, don’t forget to drop by the Quba city market where you can shop for dates, perfumes, and other products sold by local vendors.

The best time to visit Al Madinah

Since Al Madinah province is a desert region, temperatures in this area can be extremely hot during summer. This is why the best time to book a trip to Al Madinah is between the months of October and May when the weather is more tolerable, so you can explore the city without worrying about the heat.
