There are several different ways to travel between Jeddah and the holy cities of Makkah, and Madinah. For instance, the best way to do it depends on your budget and your preferences which most likely can affect your travel time.

Travel from Jeddah to Makkah and Madinah

You can travel by road

First off, if you have time and budget, traveling by road between Jeddah and the holy cities of Makkah, and Madinah is a great way to reach the destinations easily and also see the countryside and experience the local life.

The drive from Jeddah to Makkah al Mukarramah takes about 1 hour  (85 Km approx), and the drive from Makkah al Mukarramah to Madinah al Munawara takes about 4 hours (450 Km approx).

You'll also get to see a variety of different landscapes, from the mountains of the Hijaz to the desert plains of the Empty Quarter.

You'll also have the opportunity to stop at small villages and towns along the way, where you can meet the locals and learn about their way of life.

When on Umrah, traveling by road is the most convenient way to travel from Jeddah airport directly to the holy city of Makkah.

If you are traveling from the holy city of Madinah al Munawara to Makkah al Mukarramah, Dhu'l-Hulayfah (Dhu'l-Hulayfah is the Meeqat for those who live in Madinah and for those traveling to Makkah al Mukarramah from Madinah), is about 9 kilometers from Madinah giving you an opportunity to prepare for your Umrah immediately after you start from Madinah, You can get into the state of ihram here.

There are Buses also available between these cities for Umrah pilgrims.
